How the 3-for-1 Bonus Hours Work for Teen Learners
Under the current NSW scheme, one hour of structured lessons with a licensed NSW driving instructor counts as three logbook hours. Up to 10 lessons can be logged this way, giving a teen learner a maximum of 30 bonus hours without additional supervised private practice.
The Safer Drivers Course adds another 20 hours for under-25 learners who have already logged at least 50 hours. Combined, a teenager can reduce the total supervised hours from 120 down to around 70. Every AUZ instructor is licensed in NSW, so every lesson qualifies under the scheme.

NSW requires 120 supervised driving hours before a learner under 25 can sit their practical driving test, including at least 20 hours of night driving. The learner licence must also be held for a minimum of 12 months.
One hour with a licensed NSW driving instructor counts as 3 logbook hours under the current scheme, up to 10 lessons (30 bonus hours). The Safer Drivers Course adds 20 more hours for learners who have already logged 50. Before booking the practical test, learners must also pass the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) at a Service NSW Centre, which can be booked once the licence has been held for 10 months.
